Tulip Tech participates in Project Netshield - OPZuid 2021-2027

Tulip Tech is proud to be taking part in the Netshield project to develop hybrid battery technology, which is co-funded by the European Union. Find more information below:

Netshield – OPZuid 2021-2027

The Netshield project aims to develop an innovative hybrid battery technology that responds within milliseconds, essential to maintain grid stability amid growing grid congestion and renewable energy sources.

Within 3 years, the project aims to develop and validate a Hybrid Energy Storage System (HESS) at TRL7 level, achieving:

  • Power of at least 1 MW within 20 milliseconds
  • Energy density of at least 800 Wh/L
  • Lifetime of at least 10 years
  • Recyclability of at least 90%

To achieve this goal, Netshield is developing a HESS aimed at industrial applications, consisting of two complementary battery chemistries:

  • High Energy Battery (HEB) optimized for longevity and energy storage
  • High Power Battery (HPB) focused on delivering extremely high power within milliseconds

By developing an intelligent Energy Management System (EMS), loads are dynamically shared so that that grid disturbances are mitigated whilst overall battery cycle life is improved. This aims to improve grid stability and the efficient use of renewable energy sources, leading to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and resource savings.
