Build the team. Shape the technology. Power the future of flight.
Before You Hit “Apply”
At Tulip Tech, we’re building the batteries that make electric flight possible — from drones to next-generation aircraft. But technology alone doesn’t scale; teams, structure, and vision do.
That’s why we’re looking for a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) who can connect innovation with execution. Someone who thrives in dynamic environments, brings clarity to complexity, and leads our technical teams toward modular, scalable product design.
If you’ve built technology teams before, understand how to bring structure into creative chaos, and are ready to turn engineering excellence into a repeatable process, we’d love to meet you.
We move fast, trust our people, and expect our leaders to think and build at the same time.
Your Mission
As CTO, you’ll lead Tulip Tech’s technical direction, engineering teams, and innovation strategy.
Your mission: make our battery systems modular, scalable, and production-ready, while keeping innovation alive at the core.
You’ll oversee Mechanical, Electrical, and Software Engineering teams — ensuring alignment between product design, production, and long-term roadmap. You’ll also work closely with the COO and CEO to define technology milestones, guide architecture decisions, and translate R&D into manufacturable, certifiable products.
This role is both strategic and hands-on: setting direction, managing complexity, and shaping how our technology evolves as we scale.
What You’ll Do
- Define and execute the technical roadmap in line with company goals
- Lead and mentor the engineering teams (Mechanical, Electrical, Software)
- Drive modular design and scalability across products and systems
- Build and improve engineering processes for design, testing, and documentation
- Oversee innovation projects and new product concepts
- Collaborate with Production, Procurement, and Quality to ensure manufacturability
- Support certification efforts and ensure regulatory compliance where applicable
- Introduce change management practices to structure growth without losing agility
- Report directly to the CEO and contribute to strategic company decisions
What You Bring
- MSc or PhD in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering (or related field)
- 10+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles
- Proven experience with battery systems, energy storage, or UAV technology
- Strong systems-level understanding — from hardware to software integration
- Comfortable operating in fast-moving, evolving environments
- Skilled in change management, team leadership, and process improvement
- Hands-on mindset: able to dive into technical reviews and design discussions
- Excellent communication skills in English; Dutch is a plus
What We Offer
- Competitive salary and benefits package (based on experience)
- 38 days off per year (CAO Metaal & Techniek)
- Pension via PMT, travel reimbursement, and 8% holiday allowance
- Leadership over a growing multidisciplinary engineering team
- A direct role in shaping the future of Tulip Tech’s products and technology
- A fast-paced, ambitious culture that values initiative, innovation, and ownership
